Friday sees the annual Sutton Coldfield Sports Awards, reflecting the success of the various clubs and individuals around the town in 2016. The awards night has been running continuously since 2004, and as the town’s sporting endeavours grow, so too do the awards. Mainstream Print are again delighted to be supporting the evening and sponsoring the prestigious ‘Club of the Year’ award.
Looking through the programme for the event – which we printed – it’s really pleasing to note the variety in the ages of the various nominees, and particularly encouraging to see the number of younger people becoming involved in sport, and the plethora of clubs set up to support them.
These things can be the ‘green shoots’ of a career that could take young people on a great journey of adventure in sport. It can open so many doors of opportunity. For example, as Councillor Charlotte Hodivala, Mayor of Royal Sutton Coldfield, remarks in her introduction to the programme, three previous winners at the Sports Awards – Laura Unsworth, Jon-Allan Butterworth and Laura Whittle – were part of the triumphant GB team at the Rio Olympics, with the latter two returning with gold medals.
We’re looking forward to a superb evening, celebrating the sporting success of Sutton Coldfield, and looking forward to even greater glories for the people of our town in the future.
